Research of BIM Technologies in Civil Engineering Curriculum Innovations

  • With the rapid development of the economy, there is great an improvement in many disciplines. In recent years, BIM technologies have been widely adopted in the AEC industries under the supporting from national policies. Therefore, universities need to increase the BIM education because the demand for senior level BIM personnel is increasing every year. This paper has investigated the demand for BIM trainings in AEC industries, integrated those circumstances in our university to conclude those experience in BIM education′s innovations and amendments. Through the curriculum innovation of class 2019, BIM technologies has been merged into the relevant courses such as bridge direction, geotechnical, and historical building protection. This can increase the attractiveness of teaching through the integration micro teaching with the visualization characteristics of BIM technologies, hence, the learning interests and teaching performances can be improved. It can increase the BIM education through "Learn by Compete", "Use by Compete", "Real Project in Mini-semester" and "Graduation Project", and this can propose solutions to those problems in universities′ BIM education, which can provide experiences for teachings in Civil Engineering.
