Abstract: Presently, the application of BIM mainly focus on the construction of new projects, while lack of research on application in the inspection and reinforcement for existing buildings. This paper summarizes the different demands in BIM application between newly constructed buildings and existing buildings, and simultaneously points out the application trend and the problem which need to be solved during each stage for existing buildings in inspection, strengthen design, and construction. It could be used as a reference for engineers and scholars in the future similar studies.
