Overview of WebGPU and Application Analysis in the Construction Engineering Industry

  • 摘要: 随着数字中国规划的提出,基于浏览器的Web3D应用成为数字展示及应用的主要载体之一,当前主流Web3D引擎基本以WebGL为基础封装,存在调用GPU计算与渲染能力差、不支持光线追踪等新一代图形与计算技术的问题,不满足未来Web3D应用需求,因此引入新型Web3D图形API WebGPU进行研究,结果表明源生未经优化的WebGPU性能已远优于WebGL,同时具有渲染计算机制好、资源消耗少、多线程支持、底层兼容性强、性能卓越等优势,与工程行业契合度高,是未来数字中国相关工程行业平台Web3D图形API的最佳选择之一。

     

    Abstract: Browser-based Web3D applications have become one of the main carriers of digital displays and applications after the launch of the Digital China Plan. The current mainstream Web3D engines are encapsulated based on WebGL. However, there are problems in calling GPU computing and rendering capabilities, which fails to support new-generation graphics and computing technologies e.g. Ray Tracing and meet the needs of future Web3D applications. Therefore, this paper introduces and explores a new Web3D graphics API WebGPU. The results in the paper show that the performance of the original unoptimized WebGPU is far superior to WebGL. Moreover, it excels in the good rendering computer system, low resource consumption, multithreading support, strong underlying compatibility, and excellent performance. It has a high degree of fit with the engineering industry, which can be a good option for the future digital China-related engineering industry platform Web3D graphics API.
