In recent years, the development of Information Technology (IT) gives the construction industry a powerful potential to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of information exchange and therefore bring productivity benefits to the whole project life-cycle. Facilities Management (FM) in the maintenance stage of the whole life-cycle also needs the implementation of information technology. This paper introduces the concept and development of Facilities Management. Then the necessary of using IT in Facilities Management is analyzed and the implementation of IT for the management of facilities is discussed. Finally, this paper forecasts future research directions and the future development of IT in Facilities Management.
