A Decision—making System for Selecting the International Market Entry Mode for Chinese Construction Enterprises
Li Heng, Jin Zhigang
2009,1(1):13-23.
Increases in the global economic integration and development prospects of the construction market have been encouraging more and more Chinese enterprises to participate in operations overseas. However, the overseas market environment is complex, volatile and therefore risky. While it is possible to achieve rapid expansion in overseas markets, the operational risks involved Call make this unsustainable in the long term.As a result, many Chinese construction enterprises are uncertain of the kind of entry mode to Use.The theory of international market entry mode offers some help and provides insights into possible approaches and solutions. However, there are many limitations and deficiencies with the existing theory. For example, the emphasis is on entry from developed to undeveloped countries; it is confined solely to the manufacturing and service industries; and the choice of entry modes does not fully allow for the dynamics of market change. To overcome these limitations, a decision-making system and corresponding analytical framework is developed to accommodate the specific characteristics of the construction industry.

The Study of Chinese Construction Enterprises' Internationalization Performance Evaluation System
Li Heng, Jin Zhigang
2010,2(1):7-11.
Accompany with China's economic dramatic growth, construction industry of china has experienced huge leverage. Chinese construction enterprise, one of the main participants in the industry, has also received a golden chance of development and expansion. There are more and more enterprises have gone out of the national boundary to pursue further growth and prosperity in the international market. In order to help their expansion in the international market more efficiently, an evaluation framework of construction enterprise's international performance was formulated on the basis of Balance Scorecard. Then, a case study was conducted to illustrate the application of evaluation system. In the case study, a Chinese construction firm and other four top international construction firms were selected to carry out comparison analysis. The findings provide an insight into the weakness that influence in-ternational development of Chinese construction enterprises and also help practitioners to timely adjust their strategy of international operation to ensure international business success.

2009,1(2):15-22.
With the rapid development of urbanization in China, housing industrialization is needed to strongly support the urbanization. However, at present, there is still no an applicable approach to guide the development of the housing industrialization of China. Thus it has become a focus how to successfully advance the process of housing industrialization in the construction industry. On the basis of the many-years experience in the construction field, author wants to introduce the developmental mode of the manufacture industry into the housing industry. This paper presents the three key factors of success in housing industrialization and further provides the critical techniques of impelling housing industrialization, i.e.precast technique and construction virtual prototyping technology. It is cordially expected that this research can provide a reference for the development of housing industrialization in China.

Opportunities and Challenges of BIM Implementation:Current Practice in Hong Kong
Fan Hongqin, Guo Hongling, Jin Zhigang, Li Heng
2010,2(3):58-65.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) has gained rapid acceptance in the building industry in recent years in Hong Kong; both the government and the industry practitioners realize this irreversible trend of changing gradually from traditional 2D representation of building product and fragmented contributions from the stakeholders to 3D product model and streamlined lifecycle management in the near future. This research presents an overview on the implementation of BIM, its current state of practice in Hong Kong. While the primary intention is to introduce the BIM-related works and preliminary benefits; the authors also intend to identify the obstacles and challenges faced by industry practitioners of such implementation in Hong Kong from social and technological contexts. A case study is used to illustrate the benefits of BIM implementation by a large contractor, as well as the technical limitations and difficulties steering toward the "ideal scenario" envisaged by using BIM technologies.

Building Information Modeling in the Construction Industry:Diffusion Characteristics and Application Strategies
Li Heng, Cao Dongping, Wang Guangbin
2014,6(2):1-5.
Building information modeling (BIM) has been regarded worldwide as an effective tool to integrate design and construction processes and thus to address the performance problems in the construction industry, but the realization of its value still faces a variety of technical, process-related, organizational and cultural barriers. Based on the discussions on BIM application practices worldwide and the diffusion process of the Two-Dimensional Computer-Aided Design (2D CAD) technology in the Chinese construction industry, this paper analyzes the diffusion characteristics of BIM in the construction industry, and proposes some BIM application strategies for design and construction enterprises in China. In order to better realize the potential benefits of BIM, design and construction enterprises need to balance the implementations of the cost advantage strategy and the differentiation strategy, and to forgo the "mindlessness" during the BIM adoption and implementation process. Design and construction enterprises are also suggested to establish multi-stage BIM application aims, to plan systemic BIM application solutions, and to effectively integrate enterprise business processes and project processes.
